Embracing a private garden area of 26,000 square meters, the project is located within Minhang District between Caohejin and Hongqiao Economic-Development Zone. The principle characteristic of the project is a combination of townhouses and high-rise buildings built in the traditional Chinese style preferred by many Japanese and Korean clients. Due to the arrangement of the buildings, there are narrow open spaces among them. For this reason, the client requested EADG to design a green park on the western side of the property, where green spaces would serve as a link between buildings, creating a comfortable access for residents as well as visually suggesting expanded and generous green spaces. EADG employed traditional Chinese landscape features at building entrances and landscape nodes. These features, - included feature and screen walls, blue bricks, bamboo planting beds and stone paving, all inspired by the Chinese cultural concept ‘pen, ink, paper and ink stone.’ ‘Pen’ represented in the lighting features, ‘Ink’ represented by water, ‘Paper’ represented by benches and ‘Stone’ represented by terraces. The park was designed as an ancient Chinese courtyard, highlighted with pavilions and bridges. Other areas included, indoor tennis courts and other recreational facilities.
